How this site is built, and what to do if it fails you
Most of the people this company drives have a disability. A website that is hard to read would be an odd way to introduce ourselves.
The standard we hold
This site is built to WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and goes past it on the criteria that matter most for low vision and limited dexterity. Concretely:
- Body text is 20px. Nothing anywhere on the site is smaller than 18px.
- Body text contrast is at least 7:1 against its background, which is the AAA threshold rather than the 4.5:1 required for AA.
- Every button, link and form control is at least 48 by 48 pixels, and the ones that matter most are 56. Adjacent controls never touch.
- There is no animation, no carousel, no parallax and nothing that moves on scroll.
- There is no placeholder text in any form field. Labels stay visible while you type, so being interrupted mid-form does not lose your place.
- The site works at 200% text size and at 400% zoom.
- There is no puzzle CAPTCHA anywhere.
Things we deliberately did not do
There is no accessibility overlay on this site, and there will not be. Those widgets are the subject of a large share of accessibility litigation, disability advocacy organisations actively campaign against them, and on a site for disabled people an overlay is an admission that the underlying work was skipped.
There is no dark mode. Light text on a dark background increases halation for readers with astigmatism, which is very common in this age group. One high-contrast light theme, tested properly, serves this audience better than two mediocre ones.
Where we know we are not finished
Spanish translation of the ride request form and the key pages is planned and not yet done. Screen reader testing has been done with automated tooling and needs a manual pass with NVDA, VoiceOver and TalkBack before we would call it verified.
